Since 1971

Who are the New York City Sea Gypsies?

Founded by local scuba divers and instructors in 1971, we are a not-for-profit club made up of individuals of diverse ages and from all walks of life with one thing in common: we all share a love of scuba diving.

The Sea Gypsies host monthly evening lectures and other social events, local boat, beach and lake diving, as well as dive trips out of the area.
Hello Sea Gypsies and friends!

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 (Corona virus) pandemic hitting New York City, we are suspending all club events for the time being. This includes our monthly meetings, NYUPS and club dinners. I hope we can resume meeting in person in the near future, but the timing of that has yet to be determined. Right now the priority is preventing further spread of illness.

As you may have heard, Beneath the Sea, the annual dive expo held in Secaucus, NJ, that was supposed to take place at the end of March has been rescheduled for October 9-11, 2020. We look forward to seeing you there then!

While it is disappointing to not be able to hang together, the public health must come first. May we all be healthy and well in time for the start of the upcoming local dive season.

Dive Schedule

The Sea Gypsies dive actively all year round.

Our diving schedule which contains both local boat diving charters, shore diving opportunities and dive trips can be found here. Members also have access to special club diving events.

Executive Committee

The club relies on the efforts of members who volunteer to be officers on the Executive Committee. All of these jobs are open to any active member in good standing.

Six of these positions are elected by the membership at the November meeting. These officers make up the
Board of Directors, who vote on various club matters as per the bylaws, and who appoint the additional non-elected members of the Executive Committee.
